The Tax Associate / Staff Accountant is duel position that will incorporate aspects of both tax compliance and general financial reporting.  The candidate will be responsible for the compliance of tax-related information primarily focused on reporting to the appropriate governmental authorities at the federal, state, and local levels in a timely manner.   This position is also responsible for bookkeeping and other accounting duties associated with Kemmons Wilson Companies and its portfolio companies.  Initial focus will be on accounting for hotel operations and role will grow over time.   


II.  Essential Duties & Responsibilities List the job's essential or most important functions and responsibilities.  Include all important aspects of the job-whether performed daily, weekly, monthly, or annually, and any that occur at regular intervals.  Describe each of these responsibilities in detail in order of importance.  Each responsibility may be assigned a percentage of time if appropriate.

1.      Preparation of annual business, individual and fiduciary tax returns. 

2.      Coordinate audits by various taxation authorities

3.      Advise management regarding the tax impact of corporate strategies

4.      Advise management on the impact of new laws on tax liabilities

5.      Development of knowledge and understanding of applicable federal, state, and local tax laws and regulations.

6.      Focus on family office business activities and tax effects on individuals and business under the KWC umbrella

7.      Responsible for the integrity of general ledgers.

8.      Responsible for all sub ledgers that support balance sheet accounts, i.e., accounts receivable, insurance, fixed assets, amortization of prepaid expenses, accounts payable, accrued liabilities, etc.; makes recommendations where applicable.

9.      Reviews departments and/or cost centers for accuracy of reporting.

10.   Assists in controlling annual expenditures and streamlines the data processing support required during month-end.

11.   Reviews monthly balance sheet and profit-and-loss statements.

12.   Assists in reviewing and updating monthly closing procedures.

13.   Communicate with internal departments to compile financial data to satisfy corporate consolidation reporting requirements.


V.  Jobholder Entry Requirements

Bachelor's degree in accounting with a tax concentration/education history within an accounting program.

Related Experience:

Entry Level; however, consideration will be given to experienced candidates with option to expand role.

Equipment/Software Skills:

(Identify the equipment and knowledge required on specific software packages or programs necessary for this position)

Certifications, Licenses, Registrations:
